Hello Cindi!
Gary Giuffré (jĭf-fraý) here – Wow! We haven’t spoken in almost 38 years! But I still have the two silhouettes you did for me in 1973 (see attached image)! I believe we first met at Astroworld around 1969 when Texas Tim Webb and I were drawing caricatures of the people there. Later, I met you again, I believe through our mutual friend and collaborator, Harold Gunn (from Channel 39 – whatever happened to Harold, anyway?) I used to enjoy seeing you on his show and was convinced that you’d end up in Hollywood – but thank goodness, that didn’t happen! “Captain Harold” even had me on his show to discuss my pencil drawings of famous people, and later, we shared a booth at a gun show in the Astrohall where we sold his used guns and my posters of John Wayne, Robert Redford, and Paul Newman. The last time I saw you was in 1973, at the Houston Post Building, where you knocked out those two silhouettes of me in about 30 seconds flat! As I write these lines, they are presently sitting on my desk! I had always wanted to repay you the favor and send you one of my posters, but I got side-tracked, and the next thing I knew, almost 40 years had zoomed by! Then, today, I ran across your website – so, here I am …
If you’re having trouble matching my name with a face in your memory bank, here is a brochure put out by the Republicans in 1981, showcasing my portrait of Ronald Reagan, which included a picture of me taken in 1971. Don’t laugh! Also included is another picture taken almost twenty years later when I was working as a model-maker for the petro-chemical industry.
If you’ll send me a snail-mail address, I’ll send you one of my new giclée prints – from a 40-year old drawing! The prints are better than the original! Hope to talk to you again, sometime, Cindi! Very glad to see that you have continued to express your artistry and creativity!
With best regards,
Gary Giuffré
